The IR Classroom: Chinese Power in the Asia Pacific — Case analysis and online learning resources

In this video, Ben Habib shares some online learning tools that he’s used in explaining Chinese politics and power to undergrad and Masters students in his former academic role at La Trobe University.

This video was made for secondary school teachers in Victoria who teach the subject “Global Politics” in the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), and in particular the subject’s Area of Study 2 on Chinese power in the Asia-Pacific. It was originally developed as a presentation for the 2023 VCE Global Politics Teachers’ Conference run by Social Education Victoria.

In this video…

00:00 Introduction.

02:41 Connecting students to the Global Politics curriculum.

04:20 Factors that shape China’s national interests.

12:37 Instruments of China’s power projection.
