Dear Dr Habib, Thank you for posting such good photos! We love that part of Beijing. Please note the marble gates are from the former Russian Legation http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Russian_legation_in_Peking.jpg. The British Legation was around the corner and to the rear of the Russian Legation. My great grandfather was the Post Master at the Russian Legation between 1870 and 1903. The derelict house, inside the grounds of the now Supreme Court of China (combined grounds of the British and Russian Legation), was his home. Regards. Alexei Mazin
