The Environmental Security Spectrum

In this lecture, Dr Benjamin Habib compares and contrasts the collection of perspectives that we can loosely position across an environmental security spectrum ranges from the traditional national security paradigm, environmental conflict, and environmental security to ecological security, feminist environmental security and complex systems analysis. Each differs in terms of its reference point as the unit of analysis, interpretation of human relationship with the environment, conception of levels of analysis and the interplay between them, and interpretation of the intersection of different causes of insecurity.

This lecture was delivered on Thursday 11th August 2016 at La Trobe University as part of the second year undergraduate subject Global Environmental Politics in the 21st Century.
